The Makers Makeover: Let the Year of the Tiger inspire your home style

In celebration of Chinese New Year, design lead development The Makers in London’s Shoreditch is paying homage to the fierce zodiac animal of 2022

Lunar New Year festivities are in full swing with celebrations leading up to Yuan Xiao Festival on February 15 when thousands of paper lanterns will be released into the sky. 

Following a twelve-year cycle of zodiac animals, 2022 marks the Year of the Tiger and this symbol of strength and boldness has sparked a homeware trend.

The Makers in Shoreditch, a design-lead development by Londonewcastle, always likes to stay ahead of the curve so they challenged us with pulling together a moodboard which nods to this style in your living space. Here are the looks we created with homeware and furniture by some of our favourite makers…

Luna Dolce Tiger Pouf, Campbell-Rey

This moon pouf upholstered in Pierre Frey’s iconic Le Manach Tigre Velours, with a discreet shadow gap, is as chic as we would expect from dynamic creative duo Campbell-Rey, £1,926.

Tiger Rug Natural Cushion, SAVED NY 

With an aesthetic informed by traditional Tibetan tiger rugs, this sumptuous cushion has been handcrafted from 100% sustainably sourced Mongolian cashmere. It provides a lovely finishing touch to a scattered cushion display, £425 .

Tiger Face Print Wallpaper, Gucci

This one isn’t for the faint-hearted. Influenced by Gucci's women's ready-to-wear collection, it depicts one of the most important motifs associated with Gucci's new design aesthetic. The image of the powerful creature has become a symbol of the House. The maximalists amongst you will go Gaga for it, £150.

Lamp Base, Alfred Newall

The Bamboo Collection is a contemporary take on furniture dating back to 15th century India and China. It combines an exotic appeal with a modern bohemian aesthetic. This red base, available on Glassette, is considerately crafted, £225.

Isabella lampshade, House of Hackney

Crafted by hand in the UK, this decadent design is cloaked in chenille. Its unique texture complemented by tactile black fringing and the TIGRE motif, are inspired by the distinctive markings of a tigress, £415.

Crafted by the finest furniture makers in Britain this luxuriously comfortable piece is upholstered in a velvet with a tiger climbing over its back. For those who would like to splash out on an especially bold look, £3,995.

Made from stainless steel with a brushed gold-tone finish, this set’s clean Modernist lines are just the right balance of bling,  £319.

Scallop Trim Napkins, Matilda Goad 

Perfect for adding a fun detail to the dining table, these napkins are generously proportioned and best of all, don’t need to be ironed. They come in sets of four and the Raspberry red looks the part, £65.

Tiger Stripes Light Shade, Artisans & Adventurers

A beautifully hand woven light shade designed by Margate based Artisans & Adventurers and woven by the 'Love with Actions' charity in Rwanda. These shades help provide financial independence for families struggling with disabilities throughout Africa, £120.

Red Dinner Candles, Issy Granger

These Aster Red Dinner Candles are hand drawn using traditional techniques on the South West coast of England. The candles are hand packaged in an Issy Granger candles box and come in a set of six,  £26.
